Three Pillars Of Our Work

What We Build

Stone is the longest-lasting cladding choice for Calgary's climate — but only when installed with proper moisture management behind it. We work in three core areas, all built to the same standard.

I.

Exterior Facades

We replace dated vinyl or stucco accents with full-bed natural stone or thin veneer. Complete envelope: housewrap, flashing, metal lath, scratch coat, then stone — weather-tight from the sheathing out.

II.

Interior Features

Floor-to-ceiling fireplaces, kitchen backsplashes, accent walls. Lightweight cultured stone goes over standard framing without structural upgrades — all the look, none of the engineering complications.

III.

Architectural Accents

Front porch pillars wrapped in Ledgestone. Retaining wall caps. Outdoor kitchens. Entry gates. The finishing touches that pull a property's whole aesthetic together — the details that get noticed.

Authentic & Timeless

Natural Stone

Quarried from the earth — every piece has texture, colour variation, and weight that machine-cast stone cannot replicate. The premium choice for homeowners building something meant to last decades, not seasons.

We install both full-bed natural stone (heavy masonry, requires a supporting ledger) and thin veneer natural stone (the same look at a fraction of the weight, installable on standard framing). Resistant to fading, chipping, and Calgary freeze-thaw.

Versatile & Lightweight

Cultured Stone

Sophisticated concrete products cast from molds taken off real quarried stones. The visual character of natural stone at a fraction of the weight — installable on standard framing without structural upgrades.

Why choose cultured? Uniform colouring, consistent shape availability, and cuts that are difficult to find in nature. Ideal for interior fireplaces and feature walls where structural support is limited and the design needs predictable lines.

Choose Your Style

Popular Stone Cuts

The cut of the stone defines the architectural language of the home. These four cover the majority of Calgary work.

The Layers Behind The Stone

Why Our Stone Lasts

Stone fails because of what's behind it, not the stone itself. Most of the work happens before any stone goes on the wall. These four steps separate stone work that lasts 30 years from stone work that fails in five.

I.

Weather Barrier First

Housewrap, flashing, and rain-screen drainage planes installed before any stone. Calgary code allows shortcuts here — we don't take them. Water that does get behind the stone needs an exit path, and the path has to be designed in.

II.

Metal Lath & Scratch Coat

Galvanized self-furring lath mechanically fastened, covered with a properly-cured cement scratch coat. Stone installed over drywall or plywood alone — without lath and scratch — fails inside five years. We don't install on bare substrate.

III.

Type-S Mortar

Type-S mortar is rated for exterior freeze-thaw durability. Cheaper Type-N mortars crack within a few Calgary winters. We use Type-S for every exterior stone job — the cost difference is small; the lifespan difference is decades.

IV.

Weep Screed

Bottom-edge termination with proper weep screed lets trapped moisture escape instead of rotting the wall behind the stone. Without it, every wind-driven rain accumulates behind the veneer and the wall sheathing rots silently.

Stone Masonry Calgary — FAQ

Practical answers to the questions Calgary homeowners ask before hiring stone installers.

Stone installation in Calgary typically runs $13–$50 per square foot. The range depends on where the stone is being installed (interior vs exterior, ground-level vs elevated), the type of stone (cultured vs natural vs full-bed natural), the size of the install or repair, and the complexity of the project (cuts around windows, pillars, corners, fireplace surrounds, etc.). Cultured stone sits at the lower end; full-bed natural stone sits at the higher end. We provide free written quotes with everything itemized.

Natural stone is quarried from the earth — every piece has unique texture, colour variation, and weight. Cultured stone is concrete cast from molds of real stones, much lighter, more uniform in colour. Natural is the premium choice for permanence; cultured is ideal for interior applications and where structural weight matters. We install both and we'll help you pick what fits.

Not directly. We remove existing cladding back to the sheathing, install fresh housewrap and flashing, attach metal lath, apply a scratch coat, then install stone over that. Installing stone over old stucco or siding voids manufacturer warranties and traps moisture — we never cut that corner.

Cultured stone is light enough to install on standard 2×4 framing with drywall and metal lath — no structural upgrades needed. Full-bed natural stone is heavy and requires a reinforced wall or supporting ledger. During the on-site consultation, we evaluate your wall and recommend what's appropriate.

Annual rinse with a garden hose — no pressure washer (it damages mortar joints). Inspect mortar joints every 3–5 years for cracks and re-point as needed. Keep snow piled away from the bottom edge to prevent freeze-thaw damage at the weep screed line.

Ledgestone (stacked, modern linear look) is by far the most popular for new builds and renovations. Fieldstone (irregular, rustic) suits mountain-style homes. Limestone large-format blocks work for traditional architecture. River Rock reads cottage or lakeside.

Yes. We re-point failing mortar joints, replace fallen stones, restore stones that have lost colour, and diagnose stones that are detaching due to moisture problems behind the veneer. Stone repair without diagnosing the underlying moisture issue is just a band-aid — we fix the cause too.

A fireplace surround typically takes 3–5 days. An interior feature wall, 2–4 days. A full exterior facade can take 2–4 weeks depending on size and weather. We give you a clear timeline during the quote so you can plan around the project.

Exterior stone work needs temperatures above 5°C for the mortar to cure. Calgary stone-installation season runs roughly April through October. Interior stone work — fireplaces, feature walls — we do year-round, no temperature constraint.

Our 5-year workmanship warranty is in writing on every quote and invoice. It covers stone detachment, mortar joint failure, and moisture issues attributable to our installation. We're a registered Alberta business, fully insured, and WCB registered. We've been working in Calgary for over two decades.

Most popular cuts (Ledgestone, Fieldstone, Limestone) are still in production from major manufacturers and we can match them. On older or discontinued stone, we'll be honest — sometimes the best result is to do an accent wall in a complementary cut rather than try to match exactly. We bring samples on the consultation.

Yes. We work on residential, multi-family, commercial, and light industrial buildings. For property managers, strata corporations, and general contractors, we offer volume pricing. Contact us at (403) 700-8415 for commercial work.
